Ahsas means to feel in Hindi where dance and yoga is carrying the ability to feel and connect to our highest potential started by Sumeet Nagdev. Dance for Life was Josefins initiative after hearing about the wide spread sexual abuse on children and young adults in India.
These projects started in 2007 by Josefin Wikström and Sumeet Nagdev who from their combined backgrounds in dance and yoga had experienced the happiness and freedom these methods combined has to offer.
They are teaching dance classes and movement therapy in different children centers and NGO s in Mumbai slums where children and youths are receiving dance as a moment of joy and to create a better self confidence.
Some of these children are today professional dancers and teachers them selfes to inspire others. We have recently started a cultural project in the Govandi slum together with Apnalaya NGO who are a highly regarded organisation that is working with health care and education in this worst slum in India. Govandi-Shiva Ji nagar is located by the garbage dump in Mumbai.

Apnalaya Organisation- Yoga & Dance programs
An NGO founded in 1973 to help children living in slums towards a better life, Apnalaya strives to achieve this through urban community development projects in Mumbai. Its role is one of empowerment: of encouraging ordinary men and women to believe in themselves and in their abilities to change their lives for the better. We are now starting a yoga and dance program with the children and youths in the Govandi slum area as a healing activity. There is always a need for donations towards these projects to be able to continue to educate the teachers and to get materials such as yogamats and books. If you want to contribute you are more than welcome to contact Josefin or Apnalaya for donations and volontary work.
Partnership and participation are thus the key to all of Apnalaya’s activities. From identification of needs and problems, to planning and execution of projects, local people are involved at every stage.
Apnalaya's programmes are carried out by over 60 trained and dedicated community based staff, who work hand with 7 professional social workers and 3 doctors, under the guidance of the CEO, Dhun Davar.
The main area of work is Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, with communities around the dumping ground: Rafi Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Padma Nagar and Chickalwadi.
Apnalaya is a member of Credibility Alliance, and adhere to the desirable norms for good governance of voluntary organisations.
